An excellent piece (as could be expected now) Paul.

As a result of this thread and Didier bring my attention to half rounds, I've recently re-strung one of my 57 Re-Issues with a set of D'Addario 12-52 half rounds and they are very good and do obtain the mellow tone along with the 'Strat bark' - this guitar is fitted with Slider pickups.

However, I still think that my Strat fitted with DR handwound nickel roundwound 12-52s and CS54 pickups has the edge.

Trouble is, it gets to the stage where you can't hear for listening!!

Thanks for posting.

Kind regards

PS - Still in love with the TVS

Interesting Paul. Many variables to cover, but possibly flats did play a part in the first set of tunes up to Blue Star. However that does roughly coincide with the move towards the Top Boost era as well. If Hank was quite specific that he had not used them and has said so why doubt it ? Great efforts to try and sus this out !

Hi Terry and Roger,

Thanks for your kind comments; it's good to know that some found it interesting. I did it mainly to in response to the speculation some time ago about whether 34346 would have been initially supplied from Fender USA with flats, Hank's comments notwithstanding. There was no conclusive outcome so I thought I would see if the sound could shed any light.

Just to keep "on-thread", the FBI example on the video was done with Pyramid Gold's.

Best Regards,

Paul.
