Advice on Choice of New Echo Machine

Thanks for the response. Basically I have tried with some success in getting reasonable sounds using the methods you suggested.
So thankfully you have confirmed I am not missing anything just the time to work it all out. So I can be assured that I can stop looking for the missing link as it were and get on with it.

Interestingly MatevzB (I think that's his name) has programmed some patches using in reverse order i.e. Head 4 with FB first then 3 2 1 etc. He is using the MOD DELAY for Wonderful Land .I can't work out why he includes the Flanger - with the settings almost off. I did think this reverse order was the eureka moment - but the jury is out on this - but the sound is very good and I am using some of these patches.

Hi Stuart,
I'm pleased that it was some help, once the basic timings are in there is just a matter of amounts and tone( which is really where the work is) I only played around with ths G3 for a few days just to see what it could do and to learn a bit more about how to programme these things(in case anything should ever happen to my beloved ESE echomatic and I had to use something else while it was being repaired!)
As Dave has shown in his soundfile the sounds are in there if you are prepared to put the time in to coax them out.

Yes I have both with EFTP and.........I prefer the magic stomp sound. There is something not right, with the G3, which I cannot explain. Maybe too clinical, anyway, I actually prefer the G3 with the home made echo patches I had before. I use the M/stomp all of the time, at the moment. I also have an eTap2HW which is really good.....but there are no patches, and you have to make adjustments for every number. But that little problem will be rectified very soon I think. I suggest you save your money, be patient, and wait a little while.

Hi Alan,

Your statement that there are no patches already part of the classic eTap2hw is confusing. The unit is designed in a way that for the emulations with the ABCEF switch modes all 5 positions are related to patches as per original. The Echomatic-II offering is as the original and again with 5 patches. This was designed purposly to let the guitarplayer act as HBM did at live gigs. You are on the controls!! There are lists published supporting prefered settings.

With out revealing to much at the moment there are I believe plans to to bring out a amazing
new Etap2hw with programmed and programmable patches being available in the near future
which I think is worth waiting for.As soon as things are finalised a announcement will be made.

The new unit Pete refers to is called the Blue Nebula and designed by Phil,Mick and Steve. Part of the offering is my eTap2hw code. This unit is regarded by me as the best unit around also due to the extended capabilities not found in other units. To be complete, there is another unit available already as a stompbox, with extended triode emulation, produced by Stanley-fx that is also with another name and can be bought loaded with my code. As both units are more capable then a generic eTap2hw I recommended the designers/builders to not adhere to eTap2hw naming conventions.

It is a proud moment for me to see my choise of the DSP processor in 2009, the FV-1 produced by Spin Semiconductors, being used in all available 'vintage emulated' echo gear.

Stuart, there is a facebook group called Echotapper with details and some pictures. As mentioned before this is aPhil/Steve/Mick's project that will be published through them. I happen to know that there are 3-4 units build and tested as-we-speak. Phil is taking his first build to the large Shadows gathering early October. Steve's build is also to correlate/test with design intend.

On of the gems in the Blue Nebula is the extended triode emulation to emulate triodes. It is not done by one FET construct but extended to be functional over a wide range of guitar inputs. Another feature is extended default patches and user banks. At the present there are two initial enclosures. A CAD design exersize is ongoing to create an optimal enclosure. The quality of the printed circuit boards is excellent withstanding all criteria that can be expected from a professionally designed unit.
