Lightweight PA speakers

Postby Paulps » 07 May 2015, 12:35

Hi

Can anyone recommend a pair of good, lightweight, Pa speakers? If Passive, capable of handling 250 watts RMS each, or Active ones giving out at least 250RMS each? Must be lightweight, and preferably not too expensive.
Did I say they must be lightweight? (I'm not as muscular as my avatar, and I am too old to carry heavy ones around!!)

Hi, my brother has very recently bought a new PA system which is relatively lightweight & compact. It is from the Yamaha Stagepas series & is excellent quality. His model is the 600w version, but they do several with differing output. This one has 10" speakers in the cabs & the are quite light. The mixer unit clips into the rear of one of the cabs, & the cables into the other. Not sure how much he paid for it, but Yamaha are renowned for their quality.
The cabs can be mounted on poles or laid in front of you as a wedge monitor. There is also a mike feedback kill feature on it.

You could check out QSC...I'm 65 and not fit, but I can lift and carry them OK, including putting them on and off the stands.

Our bass player owns the PA system which we use - he has a range of sizes, all active, used with an 8 channel mixer and effects unit-even the smallest 10 inch job is quite adequate for gigs.

Hi Paul

You may not have realised it, but we were using our Yamaha Stagepas 500 at South West Shadows Club when you visited some months ago!

The speakers are passive with the amplification in the small included mixer which resides in the back of one of the speakers for transport and it all packs down to reasonable suitcase size for transport, the sound quality is excellent too!

Hope this helps!

Regards

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am torn between the Yamaha and the Beringer at the moment. Must find a local dealer for them both to try them out for weight, as well as sound.

Thanks again.
