There is more to this than just the echos in the end. Studio and EQ notably etc etc. The H&C echo is brilliantly made and very easy to use and will withstand a lot of gigging on stage and it too has the requirements to do That Sound. I think the eTap2HW and H&C and TVS are the main three now and EFTP are the cheaper options which nevertheless give a great Shads sound. It is the extra mile towards that Sound that these other 3 units and real tape units like Meazzi get towards the goal.

Never had it so good ! :)

And what position has the ESE Echomatic ?

Hans

PS: I`ve ordered one H&C unit, next week is the day of delivery than I can compare with the ESE Echomatic,Atlantis 1, Amtech age pro, etap and the magicstomp !

I have not tried one Hans or owned one. I have heard sound files using them and they are very good. The new H&C reminds me of my old Magicstomp and it was simplicity to use in a live situation by pedalling through patches with a clear backlit display. A old style tape unit is more fiddly to operate in live situations. So from the angle of design and ease of use plus the sound the H&C scores very highly and is a great robust design.

As Dave Robinson points out the preamp sound plus tape saturation and other controls give it an edge in the That Sound stakes. ;)

The knobs by the way on the H&C have to be at 3'O' Clock to get the presets as they are stored. If you change the tape drive fro one patch then move to another it will affect all subsequent patches. The direct level, echo drive and echo level notably change the sound characteristics. If you increase the echo drive (tape drive sim) you will likely need to reduce the echo level to balance out.

I fully intend to do an A/B test between the ESE Echomatic and the Hall & Collins. The ESE is excellent but difficult to use live when presentation is paramount. Audiences don't like to see the show held up because the guitarist is fiddling around trying to find an echo sound - the Hall & Collins allows fast changes whilst giving perfection. :)

Spent the bank holiday weekend getting to know the H&C unit and copying the instrumentals I practice each week into the user section in the order I play them in. I kept 61 to 64 free so when I have a concert I can rearrange them into set order without having to re-name them, It really could not be easier. I agree with all the comments about the quality it is very strong and looks great. It may of taken 5 years to develop but the end result was well worth the wait. I think it is excellent value at £599, it gives me everything I would ever wanted in an echo box and so much more. Thank you Charlie and John. I Love it.

Mine has arrived and, so far it's brilliant, I'll have to do all the work of programming it for use in my band The Diamond Geezers.
I'll also be giving it a demo at the Northwest Shadows club meeting.
