I also have one of those Jap '62 Custom, bound-edge Teles in Sunburst. I was a bit concerned when I bought it that the Texas Specials would make it a bit too 'Hot' for my kinda music, but I was pleasantly surprised. It really is a nice guitar with some real Fender twang & a superb finish and classy tones. It's certainly a step up from your average budget & standard ranges & & well worth the £500 I paid for it new about ten years ago.
I do get a chance to play my Teles, as I mainly do Rhythm & backing vocals ( occasional Lead vocal). It is nice to be able to go out with something that isn't the usual Strat/Burns Marvin round your neck. The only thing I miss about changing to Tele playing is the comfort of those Strat contours, which really make a difference to me.

Tony.

I recently purchased a new Fender American Standard Stratocaster. I have to say the Sienna burst finish is great and the improvements such as the speed neck
and rolled edges along with the copper added in the block for more sustain are also great. If that wasn't enough damage though; I am purchasing a new VOX
AC15c1. My Fender sounds great through it and it's time I dumped all my heavy hitting amps. Pictures falling off the walls doesn't impress the wife.

I bought a Brian May Special Guitar from Anderton's about a month ago and it was ordered from the supplier and when I got it the action was way too low for me and Anderton's had clearly not bothered to set it up. I suppose I tend to set up all my own guitars to my liking so that was not a problem for me.

Mine is in a natural finish and is a great looking guitar that I am really pleased with. As Dave says the single coil Shadows sound is possible on these guitars as well as the usual Brian May sounds. Overall the sounds are really good and it really sounds great with the bridge and mid PU in series with overdrive. Lots of sustain.

They are not exactly like the Original Red Special mainly in the tremolo design but despite that they still are capable of the sounds of Brian May.

The phase switches cause a very nasal sound which can sound like a Phaser Pedal is being used to some extent.

I really like this guitar for the price as the sounds are great and it looks great.

Might try adding the parallel wiring conversion at some point to up the number of sounds available as it is wired in series as opposed to the usual parallel as per a strat.

The scale length is 24" and the tuners a locking type. I put an extra trem spring in to help with tuning stability and set it up with 10s (it came set up with 9s)

Great guitar !

I gigged the Brian May guitar last night and it was superb ! It covered all the stuff we did from Cliff & The Shadows, Mavericks, Gary Moore and the old Scotty Moore stuff on the rock & roll numbers. To use the word 'versatile' doesn't do it justice and it was so easy to play. :)
