Hi Tony,
Your friend will be very pleased with the amp.
Since I got mine I have tried it with loads of different speakers, Luckily a lot of my friends use heads and cabs.
I finally settled for the 12" Celestion Alnico Gold Speaker as it maintains the vintage crisp sound and my Rivera RCR gives
the EL84s the soft sustain, So when I use a Boss 10 band EQ to control the mids it complements the Amp perfectly.
I would be interested to hear how your friend got on.

Well, I've now heard the Bugera V22 combo. My mate brought it over yesterday & we had a jam in the afternoon. I was very impressed with it. It is a well made amp & has that 'Voxy' sparkle, & well suited to playing Shads & '60s music. My mate has actually already replaced the Bugera 12" speaker with a Celestion G12H, & maybe that is part of the great sound; I don't know. He played several Shads tunes through it, with a Classic series F.Red Strat, & as far as I can say, it had that lovely clear piano-like ring. At £233, this amp range has got to be one of the great value items of the present time. It also has a power attenuator built in that can be set to several different levels, so that you can get the great tones at reduced output volume for home practise, small gigs etc. It has a clean, & an overdrive channel which is also good sounding. It comes with a two-pedal footswitch included in the price. The livery is very similar to a Matchless style amp & it looks classy & quality.

Tony.

They certainly look good value from what I've read. :)

Yes, Dave, this one looks to be a winner (fingers crossed). It really does have the Vox chime. My mate used his Zoom G2 for the effects (Echo etc.), & he has now disabled the pre-amp models in the Zoom & says it sounds even more like a 'Hank' sound now. He also has better control of the Treble, which was a little over the top, at first.
We are both going to look at the Zoom MS-70CDR pedal for a better ambient effects direct into the amp, based on your assessment.
He is considering getting the Bugera V22HD head & a cab to solve the weight issue. He is not able to carry heavy amps very easily. If he goes down that path, I will probably buy the combo off him.

Cheers, Tony.
