Bugera Amp ?

A guitarist friend of mine, who plays a lot of Shads music, has just ordered a Bugera V22 amp combo. It appears to be the equivalent of a Vox AC15, being a small valve combo with 2 x EL84s in the power amp. It also has several extra features to the basic Vox, & a 1 x 12" Bugera speaker. Has anyone here had experience of one. Are they any good & value for money ?

Hi Tony, not played this amp but Thomann in Germany have nearly 400 reviews from purchasers and all seem very happy.
Bugera are owned by Behringer I think, so value for money and made in China would seem to be the deal but as with anything in my experience you only get what you pay for.....still at £249 with free delivery and 3 years warranty from Thomann it' s not a big risk, plus you can send it back for free if you don't like it. Whether it rivals a Vox tone wise is something only you can decide and be happy or not happy accordingly. Cheers, TTT

I have 6 Behringer stomp boxes and a Behringer pedal board and am very happy with them. I think they are good value for money so their amps should be too. And as has been said, Thomann have a good returns policy.

I don't have any experience of this make of amp other than seeing one every now and then that people have traded in at our local music store. I do have a strong thought though, if I want a sound like a Vox it's best to buy a Vox. There are plenty of choices in the Vox range and I have tried many, finding them to sound as I would expect. Yer pays yer money etc etc.

I have a friend who has one and is quite happy with it. If you look on the net you'll find some issues with reliability, but my friend encountered no problem yet.
What's curious is that it's annouced for 22W, which is quite a lot for a pair of EL84. May be this figure is a little optimistic...

Thanks for your input, guys. I will pass your comments on to my friend. So true, that you pay your money & risk it. He did try one of Thomanns' Harley Benton combos a few weeks back, but it came with a fault, so it went straight back.

American-built and American-based amplifiers tend to quote 20w+ for a pair of EL84s and 50w for a quartet of the same valves: the Carvin Nomad, for instance, which is an excellent combo for a low price, sounding very like a Vox AC30 but with more flexible tone-shaping which doesn't require channel swapping.

Yes, but when guitar amps are tested by guitar magazines or others, the real efficient power is never measured, contrarily to what is often done in Hi-Fi audio...

The friend I mentionned who has a Buera V22 also has a Harley-Benton GA15 (not available anymore), both bought from Thomann and working well.
The Harley-Benton 10" speaker has been replaced by an Eminence Ragin Gajun with excellent results.
