Which Editing software progam?

Postby scotocaster » 02 Mar 2015, 02:13

Hi folks, i'm looking for a new editing software program. I used Adobe Audition, but have updated to a new computer with Windows 8.1 and it won't work on this computer. What is the best program out there? any help appreciated. Have a great day. Scott

Scott, in Googling this it would appear that the problems are more to do with Microsoft than Adobe and they can be overcome.
Adobe Audition will work with Windows 8.1.
I have always used Adobe from way back Cool Edit Pro so I have an interest in getting it working.
I also have Cubase but don't like it as much as Audition.

Without a doubt "Presonus Studio One" drag and drop makes it very easy to use.....i've tried most of them, "Cakewalk Sonar" drove me round the bend.
I think theres a free trial demo........

Another option is WavePad and MixPad, which I use because I can't get CoolEdit to work on the latest Operating Systems.

They're among this lot http://www.nch.com.au/software/ and work on Macs as well as PCs

With video editing programs, by 'scrubbing the timeline' (moving the cursor using the mouse pointer) one can 'play the timeline'. With the best video editing programs, the action is so smooth that it is equivalent to pressing the play button.

When I have tried various audio editing software in the past, that feature is not available. One can highlight a section of the timeline and then play it by pressing a button but there is no scrubbing.

Unless you have used a program with scrubbing, the value may not be obvious. When you have used it, a program that lacks this feature seems seriously deficient, which is why I do multitrack audio editing on a video editing program.

But out of interest, is scrubbing available on any of the programs quoted above?

Just to say Presonus s1 is more of an audio/midi recording/editing platform, not really inclined towards video, amazing prog though, Very intuitive, i was up and running within 20 mins of loading it, never looked back.
There is a scrub(audition tool) in s1......select your track/s, audio listen tool, click with mouse and it plays from the time line, clicking again stops play and it jumps back to the time line start position

Adobe Audition works perfectly on this PC, which runs Windows 8 (made to feel like Windows 7 by Stardock "Start8").

What are your symptoms?

Adobe Audition is awesome but look no futher than Reaper. Available as a download, free and fully functional for 60 days. It's licence is very cheap after that and has got the 'professional' products seriously worried. Dead easy to use and more powerful than you could ever imagine. Try it out, nothing to lose and you wont be dissapointed.

Sorry, Rob, but that's not scrubbing. What you are describing is simply timeline playback. With scrubbing, the mouse is moved horizontally to pull the cursor along the timeline. The speed of the mouse determines the pitch of the sound. Imagine you had a piece of audio tape laid flat across a table and in your hand you had a playback head. As your hand moves the head over the tape you get playback. Go slow and the sound will be v-e-r-y l-o-w p-i-t-c-h-e-d. Go faster and the pitch goes up. You can rock backwards and forwards to find the beginning of a note or the peak of a drum hit. It's the natural way to edit.

As i said, once you've had that feature, you feel lost without it.
