I know you need a minimum of four mono heads to achieve most of the echo patterns we use, maybe six for the more complex ones. You also need to consider how to get the regeneration from any of the selected heads to add to the mix. On my ESE Echomatic lV, the regen is automatically taken from head four as has been preset, but on some models there are selector buttons to add regen from all heads, each with a selectable switch. After talking to Charlie Hall and Alan Jackson I learned that some of The Shads echoes require feedback (regen) from other heads to add to the mix, which is where the 'magic' halo comes from.
Good luck with this Ecca, if anybody can do it mate, you can, you're like a dog with a bone when it comes to getting stuck in and I will follow your progress with interest. :)

Getting back on track with the thread I sincerely believe that Charlie's new machine will turn heads, he appears to have got that few per cent of magic that I have not heard before on other machines. Don't ask what it is - I can't describe it. But as I have said before, I wonder how many will hear it compared to what's already on offer, it will be interesting once it's out there to see what folks get out of it. :)

Ecca has asked for the most recent comments (the ones made after Robbo wished him luck!) to be put into his new thread for the discussion to continue there, so that this thread can continue without going off its own subject.
If you can't find something you put here, it'll probably be there!
All the best! Iain

I had another long chat with Charlie Hall today who answered my questions and played me some stuff after tweaking the patches on his Hall & Collins for final appraisal. There isn't too much to do now before the unit will be available to those who have put in an order, a couple of weeks more work according to Charlie, he really is leaving no stone unturned in getting those recorded sounds right. He demonstrated the machine and how the user can change things and I honestly believe he's nailed it. From what I've heard over and above the last demo he gave me, these are exciting times for echo lovers. :)

The demos will come soon enough, but Charlie's time is better spent refining his work and making sure of achieving the perfection that we all desire, he will settle on something and then realise it could be improved and go back and do it - he is using the original recordings to achieve this and showed me as much yesterday, believe me, it will be worth the wait. :)

That's exactly what I found with the ESE Echomatic SE 6 Dave, with the heads in the correct position( thanks to Amanda),it does give the availability of additional regen and as you say adds that little extra halo, so pleased that I found it and have no need to look at other options, I can spend my time getting the notes right now
