Gilmour Strat

Hi Dave,I went through a Gilmour phase a few years ago and found out that Pete Cornish made his effects/routing set up,I rang Pete and he went through it step by step,after about an hour the quote was £12k-£20k if some of the rack units were included. I had a strat with DG20 pickups and it didnt sound any different to a classic vibe when plugged straight into an amp. Gary

Is he for real with those prices ? I've listened to Dave Gilmour and can't honestly hear anything I'd rave over, to me he's a poor mans Hank.
I mean, listen to Tommy Emmanuel or Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler et al - there's something there worth admiring.

Well I beg to differ ,, anyone whos been playing guitar for as long as David Gilmour and made as much money from it must be doing something right .

Hank has his followers , so does Gilmour ,, personal taste I think ,, me ? ,,, I like both guitarists.

Cant see how anyone would refer to David Gilmour as a poor mans Hank ,, Total rubbish .

Hank will never be a Gilmour ,, same as Gilmour will never be a Hank.

The original thread was to see if any members had used the Gilmour strat,, and any thoughts about it , not what they thought about his playing .

Would prefer to stick to original topic theme.

Sorry, just how he comes across to me, never heard anything remarkable from him, I'm not the only one with those thoughts, I heard that same opinion elsewhere and it stuck n my mind. If you rate him then that's fine, but this is a Shadows forum.
Several of us commented on the guitar - again it seem nobody thinks it's anything special, you got your answer, if you don't like it, sorry.

Yes its a Shadows forum but there are many threads in the Guitar and Amp section which don't relate to the Shadows or Hank for that matter ,,
so where is the line drawn there .

Never did I comment on any replies which refer to me liking them or not .
Never did I take the thread off topic .

Fine, the replies indicated that the guitar was not worth the money so we move on. By the responses it appears nobody here is bothered about Dave Gilmour or his Strat. Whether or not you wish to buy one is of little consequence here so what's the gripe?

I like Dave Gilmour I also like Hank Marvin. I also like Pork I also like Chinese cuisine. Hank is a very adept lead guitarist mainly doing instrumentals. Gilmour is a guitarist who creates parts within a piece of music. There are many far more technical players than either of them but I don't necessarily enjoy their styles of music.
I think it is unfair to state that no one is interested in Dave Gilmour( he's probably not too bothered about us ). It would appear however not many are praising his name piece Strat or think its good value. I don't think many of the Signature strats are value for money but money makers for Fender. It cannot cost much to make these mods particularly in the high tec factory a Fender have. Pity Fender don't do more worthwhile things for their customers e.g electronics like G&L
