Squier Bass V1 update

There was a lot posted a while back. Are those who bought one still happy with the purchase. Does it get used for more than just Shads and Jet stuff. Eric Heydock seemed to use his a lot with the Hollies. What strings are the most popular. Which amps do people use with it.
Sorry a lot of questions here but interested as thinking of buying one. Anyone selling ?

They are great guitars and very versatile.

Eric Heydock used his as a bass - I haven't used mine in that way, I wanted it just as a lead instrument and for that purpose
it works very well.

Up until now I've just kept the wound round strings that were supplied. I've used it with several normal guitar amps at home and
at the local Shads club. As long as you don't intend to play at high volume there is no problem.

Very happy with mine!

Used on a version of the old surf number 'Baja' and for the middle section of the Tornados 'Riding the wind' - plenty of suitable non_Shads/Jet numbers out there!

I too still have the original strings nearly one year on since it arrived, but sadly I haven't been able to play it because of my illness over the last eighteen months or so, but when I have plugged it in for a few minutes I have liked what I've heard. Now I'm getting back into the swing of playing normal guitars perhaps I'll give it another go.

I don't know if its already been covered here, but LA BELLA do a set of 6 strings for Fender vi at around the £26 mark
The reference is 767-6s and the gauges are 26, 35, 44, 56, 75, 95.

Does anyone use it as a bass. I think the Hollies sound with Eric Heydock was very good and different to others around at the time. Was he a good / great bass player of the time? His sound was very full and driving

The Hollies were musically in the vanguard of their day, no question. Their musicianship as players and singers was of standout quality. Eric Haydock played a full part in that while he was there and Bern Calvert was completely up to the job as successor. There are many good bass lines in their records played by both guys. I can't say I can hear anything that stands out as a Bass VI sound though.

One of the best examples of the strong bass lines of the early Hollies is their second album "In The Hollies Style"
There appears to be quite a bit of Abbey Road compression added to the bass used which could possibly be a
Bass V1 or Burns short scale 6 string bass like the one used by Eric Ford, the well known session man, who added
the thundering bass lines to the Dave Clark Five recordings.

Hadn't heard of Eric Ford but the bass lines in DC5 were good and solid. Using the short scale Burns bass would have been unusual for session musicians but I quite like mine as have short fingers. Mine is unusual being white.They are quite rare nowadays.
I see Erik Haydock used his Bass V1 a lot in live recordings. It had a real thumping sound. Not sure who else was using one at the time or if Erik used it on studio recordings. Not much about him on the Internet.
