I'm not 100% certain, but isn't that the valve that will give a little more clean headroom ?

If you clean it up too much you lose the soul of the tone as you need a bit of dirt. I use the AT7 rather than the AY7 and can hear exactly what I want to hear, but it's your choice.
Also with the Bitmo kit I wasn't sure about the switch, but it is useful dependent on which sound you're looking for, there are nice subtle differences that I've noticed and I now use it for different tunes and different guitars. 8-)

The Blues Jnr you had off me Dave had a 12AY7 in the V1, it should give less distortion at higher volumes
