Does anyone remember the range of Guitars that were made by the Charity shop Sue Ryder, around about 2008/2009? They made a range of Stratocasters, Telecasters, and Les Paul copies in a variety of finishes. If i remember correctly, i heard that 1 of the bass players who played with the Shadows(Can't remember which 1), was involved in the production of them, did anyone else hear that?
I believe the strats were selling from about £150, tele's round about the same, Les Paul's round about £180, memory is a bit fuzzy so these are estimate prices but not far off.
I read, somewhere, that some of the smaller guitar shops, were complaining about the prices Sue Ryder shops were selling these for, as they couldn't compete. Then all of a sudden, after about a year or so of selling them, Sue Ryder shops began selling them off at ridiculous prices. At this point, i purchased 1 of the tele copies for about £69 and 1 of the LP goldtop copies for about £79, i just had to try them at these prices. I was pleasantly surprised with them, for the price i paid for them.
I sold them about 1 1/2yr to 2 yrs ago, purely down to lack of space, as i already had a few guitars in my collection. I do regret this now, as i wondered if they would be sought after because of the controversy surrounding them and they wasn't bad guitars.
At the time they were selling them in the shops, on Sue Ryder's website, there used to be a page with all of the different guitars they sold, including the 1's mentioned above. I believe there was also an SG style, Casino style, Gretsch style copies and a variety of other instruments, if my memory serves me correctly. It seems nowadays they only sell acoustics, Ukelele's and other smaller instruments. Does anyone know the truth about why they changed this, as my information came from different websites at the time. I can't seem to find any info on them any more, it's like they never existed
Cheers
Ryan
