Arriving at correct bridge location for a Telecaster

Hello Van,

Do you mean what Fender termed as 'White Blonde'? It's also one of my favourite Fender colours. Recently bought a Japanese built Tokai 'Mary Kaye' Stratocaster in that configuration. Photo will follow.....

Van, this is my Japanese Tokai 'Mary Kaye' guitar in White Blonde. Was this the colour you referred to on that Shadows LP? (excuse the slight blurriness of the photo. Was taken hand-held in natural light at low shutter speed)

It might be called white blonde; but in my memory it looks somewhat more yellowish.
It must be an old standard colour for a Telecaster.
It should not look like the skin of a dead person, though.

The white pickguard should have enough contrast with the body colour,
so the colour should not be too pale...
The paint was probably not too transparent.
There must be at least a few people here, that know everything about this colour.

Van, Having looked at the picture of the LP that you posted, the colour of Bruce's Telecaster is NOT the White Blonde that I referred to. It would just have been plain-and-simple Blonde! Apparently, the more yellowed, 'butterscotch' colour of the pre-1954 guitars was succeeded post '54 by a creamier colour which over the years, morphed into an 'off-white' shade as the standard Blonde finish. These different shades result from a combination of factors including type of lacquer used, the way the finish was applied, ageing etc.

Obviously you have already done your colour research,
but I found a picture of a "butterscotch" tele that looks like the colour that I prefer
(like on the first LP); so maybe that is what you meant in the first place.
I utterly despise the more brownish butterscotch colour, which looks like a sweet with a lot of sugar in it.
even more so with the extra gloss. But who am I...

[RUSSET]

I have a Squier Classic Series '50s Tele which is described as 'Vintage Blonde'. It's the one with a Black scratchplate, although I have replaced mine with a White one. It is very faintly transparently showing the grain through the finish, & the colour is more like a creamy Olympic White than the definate yellow shown on the picture above. It's an excellent guitar, by the way.
