50's Mex Strat- Odd Fiesta Red colour?

Postby Tigerdaisy » 19 Jul 2014, 08:29

I was looking in Stratford Upon Avon's Music Room shop yesterday and noticed this very odd looking Mex 50's style Stratocaster- it was brand new but a strange tint of orangey brown colour and a mile away from any 'red' let alone fiesta red... Any one else seen this odd colouring. You'd have though that Fender could paint their guitars some where near the right colour by now.

Hi Martin

I saw one a few months back at pmt in Romford, it was a very brown colour yet badges as fiesta red,

A friend has one and his is an orangey red and the one I had was a pinky red, I don't know how fender can get the colours so varied,

I suspect these attempts at a 'Fiesta Red' are the result of inexpert and uninformed mixing of standard colours. The guitar I saw had had white added to the mix, in an attempt to achieve a 'pinky' look I suspect, but the base paint they used was not a straight red of any kind hence the brownish look.

I agree with the comments. The base red was probably made up various colours all of which will fade at different rates. However for a Fender finished instrument it should not be a problem as their quality control should retain original samples and have colour codes. You can always get a cheap finish guitar and spray it yourself. Fiesta red - here we go again.
