Hello, Graham. l have recently been playing a Jaguar, but don't notice the shift to the shorter scale.

Hi Andy.

About a month ago I was keen on getting myself a Jaguar but I just didn't like the feel of that 24 inch scale.
Shame as I love the looks of the Jaguar.
But the Jazzmaster is pretty much as cool and sounds wonderful.
The Jaguar really is an instrument to make a lot of. And has some fantastic devotees.
But also, I prefer the fatter sound of the JM's pickups.

What's wrong with having both?

I agree Jim. I have had Jazzmasters since the 60s and I bought my 1961 in 1966 and still have it. But I also have wanted a Jaguar for years but never quite got round to it, but thought for the looks and the money I would buy it. Not looked back - I love it. Strangely it makes me play in a different way - don't ask me why, didn't develop more fingers or anything useful

When I was 13, l lusted after the Fenders and the Gibsons but I could not even think of owning one. The Jaguar was the top-of-the-line, the stuff of dreams.

Wow, that's the way to go, Billyboygretsch. With the short scale, there should be less tension on the strings and the guitar easier to play, I suppose. Play along (on a Fender amp of available) with an early Ventures piece, like Lullaby of the Leaves, and tell us how it compares.

I watched on You Tube a video of Rik Parfitt guitars and amps which was very interesting . Especially the facts that a Vox Ac30 amp was fitted into a Marshall head cabinet and the speaker kept in the flight case. He he uses 14s with a bottom 60.

I like the idea that he has stickers manufactured replicating the look of his old telecaster so they look exactly the same without them being reliced . Can then peel them off - what a cool idea

Nothing at all.
I'm just not keen on the 24 inch scale of the Jag, so it wouldn't be worth me getting one.

Here is the Jaguar I bought a few month's ago. It is a '62 reissue, which Fender just phased out in favor of the '65. I don't really need it, as I have a Jazzmaster. But I thought I should get one while they were still on the shelves; the '62 was the model I dreamt of 52 years ago. It has the "Fender Mute."
