Epiphone Al Caiola Custom

Spotted on BBC2's Saturday night Morecambe & Wise compilation, Herman's Hermit's Keith Hopwood with his Epiphone (Gibson) Al Caiola Custom, comparative rarities even at the time, and discontinued in 1970...

Lovely old guitar - wonder what happened to it?
Wasn't it Al Caiola who played the Bonanza theme, or was it another Western score?

Al had a minor hit with a single of the theme from "Bonanza", but he wasn't on the actual TV theme. I think that - as with many other TV themes from Hollywood - was Tommy Tedesco.

Al also had a 1961 hit with a single of the theme from "The Magnificent Seven".

We saw a Caiola Model - not the "Al Caiola model" - just the Caiola model at Gruhn's guitar store in Nashville in September:

A link with the Shads, Caiola's version of Sleepwalk... wonder if it actually features the said instrument?
