An interesting observation there Didier, think you could be onto something! If the Burns Marvins weren't ready, they may have built the Shads something similar to tide them over.

By the way I believe Burns pickups are slightly wider so wouldn't fit under Strat covers.

The sound was never the same from back in 1962 when Dance On came out. The twang was lost which as already mentioned was probably due to different amp or studio settings. At the same time this coincided with the Columbia label going from green to black so the green labels had the twang!

I have said it many times throughout my existence on this community and each time the subject crops up more people smell the coffee - it was the change of amp to the Top Boost that was the big difference in sound, as found by many groups at the time who updated their Voxes.
Yes, the Burns guitars did arrive in the same time frame, but any Burns Marvin played through a Top Boost with those settings suggested by David Martin will give that distinctive 'naslal' sound, as would a Straocaster. Also a Burns will sound very similar to the 'old' sound used on Kon Tiki and the earlier tunes whe plugged into an ealy Vox amp and I would be delighted to demonstrate this with my current equipment. Trust me, there is no mystery to it.

Come to think of it, even a bit earlier on with Hank's solo work on The Young Ones, the sound lost it's twang and was more mellow, unless it was a different pickup setting?

Indeed, that warm rich mellow bridge pick up sound achieved on Atlantis, seems to be the start of Top Boost making that significant sound change.
No doubt Hank & Co were well pleased at Abbey Road on the day of recording, especially if the amps were nicely warmed up beforehand, and
maybe Hank had a fairly new set of very well balanced strings to complement the "New That Sound" !!!!

I always thought the burns sound morphed from the use of the RS124 compressor at Abbey Rd, Not just Hanks sound but the whole band," Dance with the Shadows" onwards, They never went back to the pre WL sound although they didnt have Jet or Tony (r.i.p), Hard to put in words but a lot of stuff coming out of Abbey Rd had that type of mix/sound in the mid 60s. It wasnt as clean as the earlier stuff.

The intro overlaps the main melody at the start, so one of them was an overdub. Then there was another overdub for the orchestral part (actually, two version, one in mono and one in stereo).

The extra overdub causes some 50Hz hum which is particularly noticeable at the beginning of the track.
