The Mex 'Classic Player' series Jazzmaster Special has an Alder body. They are in the £700 bracket.

Hi Ecca,
I know how you feel. I get guilty about buying more guitars, but then I think, sod it; you only live once & you can't take it with you. It could be a better investment than leaving it in the bank, anyway ! I'm trying to convince myself that these latest series of Squiers are going to be the next JV series & will be worth a lot in ten years time. If you do get one, go for the Sunburst or White. Don't buy any poofy Sonic Blue or Surf Green. They're for girlies. I got mine from Andertons with free next day delivery. I think I've come over all Squier again.

Having bought my new Squier Jazzmaster last year, & tried to get the Trem arm to stay in place without swinging about, I finally solved the problem. If you press really hard on the bend section, over the hole, it does indeed click down into place & the swing factor goes away. It stays where you put it. Hurrah !!!

That is certainly true for SOME Jaguar/Jazzmaster/Bass VI tremolos, but not for all of them.

Hi Jim,
Well mine is just the new Squier version, & it certainly worked for me. I did have to press down quite hard on the arm where it enters the socket. I had also already put a little bit of clingfilm around the end of the arm some time ago, but I don't know if that made any difference. I can't say for any other versions of Jazz or Jag etc.

The main problem I've encountered is with MIJ Jazzmaster reissues.

The original and reissue USA models have the correct shape for the non-business end of the trem arm (like a jack plug, which engages with the brass collet), but the Japanese vintage reissue arms have a plain, flat sided arm, and many of them canot be tightened without surgery and/or replacement parts.

The only Squier I've tried seemed to work OK.

I purchased swamp ash body off eBay and fitted maple neck gold hardware and UK manufactured vintage pick ups. Looks and sounds really good and very similar to my 1960 sunburst one. There are some very good replica guitars. I bought a Chinese Gretsch Elliot Easton 5570 intended to fit it with TV Jones pick ups but the standard fitted ones sound great so am holding off.
