Line6 POD HD

Just thought I would mention I had bought one of these recently and I think it is great !

The AC15 and AC30TB models are great matches to the real thing (I own a AC30 Heritage) and lots of EQ and mics and preamp trickery to get a great sound.
The multihead delay IS BASED ON A ROLAND re201 and there is a modulated delay so a suitable approximation of the Shads delays can be done like say on the Tonelabs.

Loads of other stuff in there too and all the amps sound great and great effects (wacky and otherwise) Great reverbs with adjustable predelays. A U67 mic sim as well as the Shure 57. The amps can be adjusted for bias and speakers for thump and resonance.

Put this through a PA channel and away you go with a great Shads sound which you can store in patches to recall at the press of a button.

I have used the POD and other pedals before but the POD HD is great in my view and the price was down to £250 from £350 for the desktop model .

Might never need anything else to play into !

The amp controls for the AC15 and AC30 work slightly oddly in that the the middle control is the top cut control and the presence control should be set to zero. The bass and treble controls on the AC30 sim are interactive like the originals affecting the mids.

Roger, I was using the Pod X3 Pro up until six months ago but am now using the JamUp app on my iPad as my processor. I still have the Pod, which was excellent and which I keep as a back-up. Out of interest, could you tell me your settings for the AC15 model and AC30 models?

Cheers

Hi Noel

Only had it Fri so not done much than try it out

The AC30TB works just like the real thing where bass/treble is concerned. For example Peace Pipe set treble midway set Bass around 2 and mid control (cut for this model around 12 O Clock ish and that is the basic amp sound. Then comes the EQ and mic pre amp settings to get closer to the recorded sound which are only available on the newer POD HD models. The AC15 sounds great using similar settings but I need a bit more time with that one as I never owned an AC15 ! Maybe bass and treble right off and cut (middle) to suit tune.

The eq had a mid focus eq which is same as a Hi pass/Low pass pair allowing you to trim bass and treble. Then I used another EQ on a few frequencies to further shape the guitar sound such as boosting around 2kHz and cutting around 500hz but depends on the tune to get close to recorded tones.

The mic Preamp has a similar Hi/Low pass filter on it and the mic models have a low end frequency cut as well if you want to use them. mThe mic preamp effectively warms the sound up a bit.

It does sound like the real deal to me as an AC30 Heritage owner and close enough .

I had the POD xt till recently and that was not bad but the POD HD has a lot more on board certainly with eq and effects and the amp modelling is improved. The PODxt was not quite as good in my view but this newer unit is better and more flexible.

Having 25 amp models in a little box like this is great

Additionally the Binson Echorec is modelled too and the Vox bias tremolo ( as well as the Fender Opto one)

and The Vox Tonebender tone and Maestro Fuzz sound.

A lot to get to grips with !

Thanks, Roger. Sounds like you're having fun. Obviously my X3 Pro doesn't have those HD features and I'd be tempted if it wasn't for the fact that JamUp on the iPad are doing such a good job for me at the moment.

Cheers

Yes, I do. My iPad is slotted into the Alesis iODock and sits on a sliding shelf in my rack case. The chain is:
Guitar (via Line 6 Relay digital wireless) - Alesis Quad GT - iPad(in dock) - Bose L1 compact. The Quad GT is in the
chain mainly for EFTP on Shads numbers, the rest of the time it is bypassed. To be honest, I could easily gig using only the modelling and effects in JamUp on the iPad. My BTs run from JamUp, too.

The sounds are excellent - better, in my opinion, than I was getting through my Pod X3 Pro, though that may be down to me making a better job setting up my tones on the iPad.

That looks pretty good Noel now that I've seen it in context re your description when we met up.

; And Roger, my Pod HD 500 sounds really good through my L1 Type II Bose. I only do about 4 instrumentals when gigging but one can insert 3 delay/tape echo type modules with the correct'ish timings and get results on a Shadows track. I'm not an 'anorack' but my ears tell me if it sounds good. I use a Custom Shop NOS Strat and the 500 sounds good under distortion too taking into account the pickups are all single coil. I use an ipad for my BT's and an app called 'Stage Traxx'. I also found a little program called 'MP3 gain' very useful for normalising the BT's before I put them into itunes.
I gave my Pod XT to an old friend but the 500HD with it's flexibility functions is significantly superior without doubt.

Hi Noel, after reading your posts I decided to purchase an alesis dock and it works very well, only problem I have is the sound of the guitar with the amp modelling distorts a lot of the time, any idea what I'm doing wrong? I'm using the ac30 sim

Thanks
