Classic Vibe screw thread ?

Postby RUSSET » 03 Jun 2013, 05:39

Not being good on the engineering side of things, can anyone tell me what screw thread size is the Trem arm on a Squier Classic Vibe Strat ? The arms are, for some reason, made longer than the normal size on yer average Strat, so I want to get a normal length one for my CV Strat. Perhaps they may be the same thread as a Gotoh Jap one ?

Asian copies (irrespective of make) invariably have a thread of 5mm on the trem arm socket.

I managed the pull off the trem arm tip, yesterday. It's only pushed on over a slightly fluted section about 3/4" down the smooth shaft. My neighbour has a small workshop, so I may ask him if he can cleanly cut about 1/2" off the arm, & hopefully that should solve my problem. I did originally contact Anderton's about a shorter replacement arm. They contacted Fender, who said they couldn't help. Couldn't care, more like !

Seems alot of Manufacturers have this dont care attitude! However there are exceptions - Ive always found Burns to be very helpful and years ago the volume control knob on my Ovation Glen campbell was found to be cracked. I contacted the main dealers in London who advised I needed to buy the whole internal electrics and battery holder to get the knob! I then wrote to Ovation in the USA who were not too happy at their dealers response and sent a new knob free of charge with an apology!

I forgot to mention that the guitar in question is my brand new Squier CV '50s Strat (Ltd.Run) model. It's Squier's answer to the US 'Mary Kaye' model, in White Blonde with Gold Hardware. OK, it's a little more expensive than your standard CV series Strat, but I love the way it looks & sounds. I can't get over how good they are for the price you pay, and I was pleasantly surprised at how lightweight it is ! It's the lightest Strat, or any guitar that I own, that I have ever had. It's an Alder body, by the way, with a slightly translucent finish.
Once you've done a quick set-up. & put the pickups to your favoured height, & adjusted the bridge saddles to suit, it really feels like a guitar that would be selling for about £1,500 in the stores. We've all been there, trying out the Vintage Reissues & Custom Shop models, & I'm telling you the value gap is so much smaller than the price gap.
