CLASSIC 50´s

Postby event » 10 Jan 2013, 14:56

Hello and and a happy new year from Norway!
I have just ordered av new Fender Stratocaster Classic 50´s in Fiestared as a new stageguitar. In the long run the neck of my MIJ Hank Marvin sign. feels to thick in the neck.
Anyone out there with comments on the Classic 50´s-serie?
Best regards

Hello Even,
In my opinion, the Classic 50's Stratocaster is the best value for money 'true' Fender Stratocaster on the market.
Like you, I have a Fiesta Red guitar, which I had modified with Fender US gold hardware and also Custom 54 pickups.
As a home player I found it the best, most cost effective replacement for the '62 Strat that I rather stupidly let go nearly 50 years ago!
Enjoy it.
Cheers,
JB

They are beautiful guitars, was quite shocked by my local music store though, they had one in supposedly fiesta red, it's was very brown looked nothing like fiesta red so be careful if ordering one unseen

What happened exactly with your HBM sign. ? The neck is too thick ?
A thick neck has a lot to do with sound.

A while back I played a couple of maple neck strats, one with quite a deep V neck and the other a D neck and in each case the tone was much darker and more scooped sounding than my very shallow C necked '62, and I liked that sound. I think if I was looking at buying another I'd choose one of these neck shapes even though my small hands have trouble with the thicker woodwork.

Hi All, I've had a Classic '50's for about 2 years. Straight out of the box it's a great guitar. After a while I changed the stock pickups for set of '62s as I felt the stock ones sounded a bit "thin". This improved the warmth of the sound. I played through a Vox AD30VT and a Zoom RFX 2000 with EFTP and was very happy with the sound even when gigging. Of late however, I became dissatisfied with the sound and swapped the zinc trem block for a steel one. This again improved the sustain and gave a "ring" to the sound. Today, still not being totally happy that I was getting "that sound" I decided to fire up my ancient '62 Vox AC30 Super Twin - feed the Zoom into it - and there it was - that sound! So you see - all that fiddling and it wasn't the guitar at all! It's all in the AMP! So, lesson learned!
At the end of the day the Classic '50's is a great sounding guitar and coupled with the right outboard gear you'll get "that sound" without any problem, so go for it!
