I have had a AD15VT since 2004. It is perfect for home use. My only criticism is that it lacks an external speaker jack, so you would have to mike it up for a live gig. I tried it out in at a small pub gig recently and it was only just loud enough.

Cheers

That was my one regret in not buying the 30w instead. I never thought I'd have a need for an external jack but now I have  But I guess I could have one installed by my guitar shop, I'm not sure whether the mike would be better or the jack. Any info on this guys??? :?
And as Geoff says, why did they have the unsightly metal grill? I suppose it does protect the speaker more, but why would you need to when most likely you wont be gigging it anyway and be using it for home use mainly.

Hi, Season's Greetings everyone! I've been using a Vox Valvetronix AD50VT for several years and it is a great amp, but I've not been able to get the sound of a real Vox despite the various amp modelling sounds and fiddling around with the tone controls. Every time I think I've got it, a second listen the following day tells me I haven't. I know this to be true because I'm lucky enough to still have my Vox AC30 Super Twin to compare with! At the end of the day the Valvetronix ISN'T an AC30 and never will be.posting.php?mode=reply&f=21&t=8647&sid=d8e6e16588efc8c3b6d33d0947bd2163#

I have used a Vox VT30 for as long as they've been around and the first thing I did with it was change the speaker for a quality one - Eminence Ragin Cajun in my case. It made a world of difference and I eventually sold my Vox Heritage AC15 as it was redundant because of the VT30.
I always use it for band rehearsals as it is close enough sound-wise for either the early Shads stuff or by switching channels, the 'Flingel Bunt' era Shads stuff which makes it a cheap versatile option , though as Terry says it isn't an AC30. The difference is not really noticeable at rehearsal levels, but becomes obvious when cranked up to gigging level.
Add to that it's capability of reproducing good Fender, Marshall & Boogie tones which makes it a keeper for me. I emphasise that the quality speaker is the key here.
I have posted demos here of various echo machines and this amp was used on some of them and well accepted by those who listened. :)

Thats an interesting point Dave. I don't think many of us have considered speaker upgrades on
the VT range especially on the lower priced units. Emminence is a new name to me, and seems
to have quite a wide range of options on investigating further.

All I can say is that the speaker change gave me a very big improvement in quality of tone and headroom. The Eminence speakers (there are quite a few choices of models) are well respected within the trade and are used on quite a few upmarket amp models.

Would changing the valve make much of a difference to the sound do you think? If so, what would you recommend?
I have the VT15.

I'll second Dave on this - I once had a Vox AD60VT and it was OK but I eventually sold it on as it didn't quite do it for me. More recently I came across a used AD60VTX - the later upgraded (and rarer) model - the differences being the cabinet is made from birch ply rather than MDF, is closed rather than open backed but I suspect the most significant reason why it sounds so much better than the earlier amp is the more powerful Bulldog speaker they fitted instead. This improved the headroom considerably and it has plenty enough oomph for live gigging and sounds equally great on each of its switchable wattage options (60w/30w/15w/1w). I can honestly say that when used alongside an AC30 at our club I would challenge anyone to tell them apart in terms of tonal quality - many other club members have passed similar comment. I do think the speaker is a major part of this tone and it's certainly a keeper. :)
