How heavy is that Fender Twin - about 64 ibs (34Kg)?

How about a genuine Fender amp that has the same shape and size, with 100 watts, 2 x 12" speakers and spring reverb, but only weighs in at 48 Ibs (21 kg)? (and costs less than £200).

Yup, it's the FM212R.

I've had one for at least six years now with no problems. It has that authentic 'Fender' sound on the clean channel and is bl***y loud if you need it to be.

Worth a look

Ray, I totally agree with your suggestion!

...however, we will now be castigated and howled down- because the FM series is TRANSISTOR!!

My mate who plays rhythm in our band has an FM 212 - soundwise on the clean channel it gives the great Fender amp tone with lots of power as you say.

I use a Marshall 50 tranny job though because it has a very nice echo and other effects built in. (They didn't have an FM model in the pawnshop that day, so I bought the Marshall!)

I think some of the earlier FM models (the all-black coloured model) also had digital effects , and if I find a 100 watt 2x12 FM with effects for sale locally sometime, I would grab it!

How about a Fender Deluxe reverb RI (22 watts)?
It was designed as the little brother of the Twin reverb
but half the weight ! Great sound.

In the 1980's I used a Fender Vibralux - it had 2 x 10" speakers - the volume knob could be pulled out to give a louder, brighter sound if required. It was quite a bit lighter than a twin reverb. I do not think this model is in the current Fender catalgue, but it should be possible to find a reasonably priced, second-hand one.

Fender put out a reissue 2x10 Vibrolux a few years ago- could be some around secondhand..

Lovely little amp! Trouble was they cost nearly as much as as the then also new 1965 Twin reissue!

J had a Fender Twin some years back called 'The Twin'/
All valve, 100 watts and God almighty was it heavy.
Don't even consider it unless you have contacts at Pickfords.

I had a twin reverb some years ago - came with removable castors and it WAS heavy! Funny in those days I used to lug it up flights of stairs without any problem! These days I find my Vox AC30CC1 too heavy - supose its an age thing!

The Twin is a great amp but badly designed handle wise, feels like it could break anytime with the weight and for an amp that is so heavy why couldn't they have designed it with two handles, one each end? then two people could carry it.
Also castors are no good when you have to go up stairs and steps.
