Guitar Australia

Postby Nick Allan » 15 Dec 2012, 17:47

Hi Chaps,

I wonder if any of our Australian members can help with this. My guitarist/songwriter stepson Marcus is in Melbourne (and loving it), but he needs to buy a relatively inexpensive guitar. What he is after is a nylon string acoustic with a pickup (he had to leave his Walden at home. Something in the region of £350 or thereabouts, but he says guitars are expensive in Australia.

Anyone any ideas or can point him in the right direction?

Glad for any help.

All the best, and thanks,

Nick

Tell him that the price tags are in Australian dollars- not pounds!

One Aussie dollar is worth about 65p at present- I'm in Adelaide but I've seen reasonably priced new piezo-electric pickup equipped nylon string acoustic guitars in shops from about $160- say a hundred quid - often cheaper on the internet of course, and cheaper secondhand - try www.gumtree.com.au- this is a straight sales site, not auction bidding like e-Bay. There are lots of music shops, pawn shops, Cash Converters etc in Melbourne -city and suburbs.

Here's one not far from the city for a start: Yamaha electric classical $160 negotiable- about 100 quid...

Thanks John - unless I am mistaken, you are up early !

Yes, I know about Gumtree (surely an Australian creation)- we have it here and I have found several good bargains on it, including a great Martin guitar for my daughter>

Thanks again for your help.

All the best,

Nick

You're welcome Nick!

Actually, I couldn't get much sleep that night- it was about 30 degrees C overnight here! Thought as I was awake, I may as well make myself useful and help out!
