New Jazzmaster

I have given in to that evil temptation again & treated myself to a Squier VM Jazzmaster with Trem. It is in a beautiful Sunburst with Tortoiseshell scratchplate. At £255 with free delivery it was too good to ignore. It has a great action, & although it will need a fine-tuning set-up, it played OK straight from the box. The push-in Trem arm does tend to swing loose, but if you push it right in to the hole firmly, it does grip more securely. It feels quite different to our usual Strats, & sounds different too; but that's the point of it, isn't it ? I think I've come over all ..... Bob Bogle. Worth a look at if you fancy something different, certainly at these prices. They also do a VM Jaguar too, which looks just as nice. There are several Youtube clips on the web.

I was looking at Squier Jazzmasters last time I was in Canada and thankfully I never saw one that took my fancy
I'm starting to trip over the guitars I've already got without buying any more but hope you enjoy your new purchase
Trouble is, they are too damned cheap nowadays and such great quality, thus inviting temptation.

Tony, I see some models have alder bodies and some have basswood. Which one is yours?
I like the basswood, gives out a nice warm sound

Bruce got his Jazzmaster in early 1960 (he already had it in march 1960, it can be seen on a video from the Cliff Richard show), and used it until he received the fiesta red Strat with rosewood neck in march/april 1961. So he used it for at least one year.

I understand that this range all have Basswood bodies, which is fine. Maybe the previous hardtail versions were in Alder; I don't know. http://www.fender.com/en-GB/products/vi ... azzmaster/
I have now tried it through my Fender Superchamp XD combo, & it sounds really good. I was expecting it do be a bit on the dull side compared to a Strat, but it sparkles & chimes. On the neck pickup it sounds very full & classy. You could almost play clean Hendrix on it. I have already tried Ventures stuff on it, but I will have to have a fiddle with the tone controls to try to get their sound. I know the Ventures used many different amps over their lifetime, but I would hope the Fender 'Twin' simulation might get somewhere near. This & the Jaguar is certainly this year's bargain triumph from Squier.

Hi Andy,
I was considering the Mex Classic Player version, but this one is 1/3 the price, but I guess not 1/3 the quality.
I mainly play Rhythm Guitar in my band, so maybe I can be a proper 1960 version of Bruce when we play Apache; visually at least. We do also play 'Walk Don't Run' & 'Perfidia', so I will also look right for those.

Hi Tony,
Like you, temptation got the better of me and I bought a Squier JM on the 'bay'.
It's a minter in 3 tone sunburst and I look forward to taking delivery when I travel to Colorado USA in two weeks
to spend the annual Thanksgiving holiday with my son.
I reckon it's $US199 well spent and hope to compare notes in the near future.
