Here's one for the amp techies in here...........

About 25 odd years ago I bought an old well beaten up 100w H&H amp top to use in a band I had just got started in, it crackled something awful which led me to believe that it had been stored outside in a shed for years r the like. A mate of mine who was an engineer in the steelworks got me a spray for electronics that they used on their computers of the time and it worked a treat, after opening it up and spraying every circuit I could see, it worked perfectly and never crackled once ever again, and I even managed to make a fair profit later on when trading it in for a Peavey Chorus 400.
Trouble is, I cant remember the name of the stuff, and I wondered if anyone had any ideas on which product to purchase as my Vox VT is acting up a bit in the crackle department and I thought I'd give it blast to see if it clears it out.

Also, whilst on the amp subject....I'm thinking of getting a mini PA system to put my guitar and backing tracks through, something that would do for a small pub or restaurant type of venue. Nothing too costly, just something that gives a fair tone quality to my tracks and my amp played through it too. I see Yamaha do a Stagepass 300 system which looks pretty good, anyone got any info on this one?

Was it servisol switch cleaner
that seems to be the standard remedy for crackling pots etc.

Hi Hugh

We have recently bought a Yamaha Stagepass 500 for our Shadows club, it has only been used once so far, I don't think you will be disappointed with the 300.

We found our to be extremely portable, easy to setup and use with great clarity and more than enough power to fill our reasonable size venue. I would advise getting the optional carry case as it makes it much easier to move and store, whilst giving reasonable protection in transit.

Many thanks for the info Gary. I wondered if the 300 would have enough output and quality of tone for my needs. Your reply seems to answer that for me with the 500. I'm off to the music store I do business with to see if they still have the stagepass(500) they had a few months ago and ask a few questions and maybe hear how it sounds.
I'll ask the difference between the 300 and the 500 too.

our keyboard player uses the stagepas 300 system
it sounds good ,however when playing in a live band situation, its a bit underpowered.
he only realy uses it to monitor his sound on stage.
i would go for the 500 it should have a bit more power.

Yeah, I was talking to the guy in the music shop today which specialises in pa systems, he said the 300 was way underpowered even running backing tracks if you want good clarity and quality in sound, once you add another dimension like guitar or vocal, you are taking too much out of it. Something about the compression settings on it that causes the unit to struggle after a certain volume, even the 500 struggles a bit, he recommended something like a 600w mixer amp with at least two 10inch speakers in order to give clarity all round.
So, its back to the drawing board at the moment.
