I think the Jag does lead better, if you look at a lot of Jazz players they tend to be rhythm players, that's a sweeping statement and I'm sure there are plenty the other way round.

But re the trem, if you push it hard home you'll find it pushes down into a friction area which holds it in place, although it'll probably wear in time.

The best £30 upgrade for any tremolo-equipped Japanese or other Asian Jazzmaster or Jaguar.

I've got one on a MIJ sunburst Jazzmaster. You can also get it for the USA versions (there are different threads on the mounting receptacle), but they tend to have better-made parts which "grip" the arm better in the first place.

Hi Geoff,
I would be a little concerned that the Jaguar would be too near the sound of a Strat, whereas the Jazzmaster has it's own fatter tone. I have enough Strats, so to pull off a Ventures or a Hunters sound, I feel a Jazzmaster would be the prefered guitar. Also, the Jaguar is a 24" scale instrument. Still, each to his own, they are both great looking guitars & bargains, top boot. Maybe I'll get a sunburst JM soon. By the way, I am mainly the Rhythm player in my band, anyway.

Tony.

Oddly enough it doesn't sound the same as a Strat, it's twangier at one end and mellower at the other, I have an Aria Diamond with P90s which does have a fatter sound which I thought would be better for Surf stuff, and indeed it does it well, but the Jaguar seems to stand out at a lower volume.

I don't seem to notice she shorter scale length, which is odd, because I certainly do on my Eggles which are only 1/2" shorter than a Strat where as the Jag is 11/2".

What swung it for me is that I could only find the Jag in Sunburst the Jazz were all whites, sea foam, etc and I either wanted balck or sunburst.
