Damage on 34346?

Apart from the lower body looking as if a cat had used it as a scratching
post there seems to be a black ring round the bottom of the volume knob?
Maybe just daylight or a shadow (no pun intended) !!!!

Remind me again someone... why was the G pole lowered on the pickups ... was it on all the PUs ? was it a self mod by HBM ? ... most of all why did he need to do it ... was it becuase he had tried using plain 3rd strings ?

A detail from a picture posted on Facebook and very obviously from a shot taken at the same session as the famous sweaters/Telecaster shot used for the front cover of the group's first LP in 1961.

Surprisingly, and even though I've seen other shots with minor chip damage to "that Strat", there appears to be a lot of damage to the front lower edge of the body. No wonder it was resprayed after Cliff got it back...

Hi Roger,That particular pole piece stagger would have been on earlier strats 54/55 era and is unusual on an early 59 model, It is possible to push the G pole down but I wouldnt try it,unless you try it on someone elses guitar first,

It's not extremly rare,but also not common that some sets of 59's have that lowered pole on that position.
On first sight it looks like the g stringpole is pushed down,but its not.
They left the factory that way.
Funny enough I handled that 34346 a few times,and the first two times I didn't see it .....the exitement I guess
The g polepiece is of normal lenght,but stick out the bottom bobin.....on the 50th anniversary strat the pole piece is just shorter and flush with the bottom bobin.
Not to long ago a genuie 59 set with that lower g pole was for sale, for about $5500 Eddy Vegas guitarvillestore
If you think thats expensive.....a set of 58 are now on the website for $8999
A 58 pickguard did go for $4000 not to long ago.....if my original 58 pickguard would fell to pieces....i don't know if would i go that route
