I intended to translate Jean-Claude's building instructions for his DIY echo box, but it was more complicate than I expected (the translation, not the building), and I also encountered since then some major personal problems which diverted me from this task.
But I have not dropped the idea, and I hope to be able to do it soon.
Some have been built, and I have heard it live with excellent results. Of course it's not as easy to use as a TVS3, and you have to master the building and settings, but for those who are tech minded enough, it's a cheap way to get a very goog sounding unit for the early years Shadows' sound (and nothing else).

The circuit diagram would save me a lot of work.....

Apache and Wonderful Land were recorded using different Meazzi units Ecca.

That explains it.
I've long thought that all you need for Shads stuff is Wonderful Land and Apache but their head timings are different.

The different patterns for Apache and Wonderful Land can be achieved using one echo unit but it requires six heads with appropriate spacings.

If the unit is to be drum or tape based then it's also necessary to have a variable speed motor drive.

Hi Ecca

There is a PT2399 circuit here;

http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pro ... t-80-delay

I'd thought about making each PT2399 delay on a separate PCB to plug into a motherboard so you could have as many or as few "heads" as you need. Never got past the "thinking about it" stage though!

Jean-Claude's DIY echo box is intended to emulate both. On the front panel pic which I posted on message #10 in this thread, you can see a switch labelled "Type 1/2", that's it.

Thanks Rog, I have a schematic for a simple repeat and I've best part designed the PCB for it.
I'll be putting it up later so you gentlemen can check it for me against the circuit and tell me if I've dropped any goolies.
I'll be using precision 10 turn pots to set the timings on each 'head' so it could be set to any machine, but I intend it be simple
so I'll probably set it the Wonderful Land which is infinitely more useful than the Apache setting.
I see that Jean Claude used 2 pots for each 'head' so his brilliant unit will do 2 different machines.
My motto for starters is 'Keep it simple'.

OK, here's the PCB design of the circuit diagram pictured here.
Tell me if you think there are any mistakes.
VR1 isn't on the diagram, that will be the adjustment for the head timing.
