Hi Andy,
The battery should last about ten years I am told, but being in the motor trade for many years I know that batteries
can, and do fail at any time. I wouldn't worry if it was just a case of taking the lid off and replacing the battery, but to loose
all your programs you would be left high and dry.

Hi Shadowkarl,
It sounds like you are well in "the ball park" for "that sound" as far as your equipment list is concerned.

Best regards,
BAZ.

I doubt that there'll be any radical failure of the battery and it's a pretty straightforward job to replace the battery for any techie
so get it swapped and stop worrying, the Q20 is the best of the lot.

Here is an example of what can be obtained with an echo unit costing less than £200 : http://www.4shared.com/get/6FeGZ8s3/Won ... _Echo.html
I think it shows than you can get interesting results without breaking the bank.

I have Not yet Had To change the battery in my old Alesis quad +
i have had to change the battery in my korg keyboard twice in roughly 20years
the problem is when changing a battery in the keyboard all the saved internal settings are lost
and have to be reloaded, via a midi data dump .which is not a problem has i have them saved on a seperate disc.
i would imagine it is the same with alesis quads ?
so my advice would be to get your quads internal memory backed up on to disc or whatever media you use.
then if you do have any problems with with battery failure or changing the internal battery.
you can just load all your settings back into your quad.
Back to the original question i have a Zoom 508, alesis quad+ & zoom g2
i prefer the zoom g2 ,followed by the zoom 508, then the alesis quadraverb+
but im not a lead guitarist i just dable so realy its just my personal preference as what sounds best to me.
il stick to the bass , no effects, whammy bars , or vox amps .to confuse me.
regards
Jay

I never had a battery fail on any of my Quads. It was just a psychological thing that kept nagging at the back of my mind like a phobia.
It was one of those things that I had no control over if it failed at a gig.

Baz.

Batteries in Quadraverbs, GT's Q2's Q20's etc are no problem to replace,
the main issue being the loss of programmed patches.

This is no problem if you've bought the patches to load yourself from Charlie,

it's not really a problem if it's got Charlie's seals on as I believe Charlie will still do
battery replacements on these units.

On all units up to the Q20 it's fairly easy to solder in a new battery with power applied
to hold the memory while the battery is being changed.

Q20's use switch mode power supplies and can give a nasty shock..

This is a DIY unit designed by Jean-Claude (the other French Shadows' forum manager). Here is one of those which has been built :

Of course, it can look different, according to the builder's skills an taste !

There is a lot of talk about echo unit's and 'that sound' or 'shadows sound', but imho the amp is the most important ingredient. I've heard numerous echo units being used in EF86 loaded AC's and in the right hands, most of them sound great. :D
