Hi all
The new custom shop Fender Bass VI has been issued in Fiesta Red and Coral Pink how do you think the coloures compair with the originals?

Both great looking colours - who cares whether or not it's 100% the same as Hank's old Strat - I certainly don't and I doubt that Hank would.

On my monitor, the Coral Pink example doesn't really look like Coral Pink - it's too orange - but this may be due to some combination of the photography, the image processing and the colour correction on my computer and monitor.

What is certainly true is that CP and FR are close cousins, close enough to sometimes fool you in isolation (especially if, like most of us in 1962/1963, you aren't aware that there are two such colours), but sufficiently distinct that the differences are revealed immediately when you see them side by side in the flesh.

Hi Geoff,
Those are beautiful Bass VIs, no doubt. As has been mentioned, it's difficult to judge shades of paint from a photo. My personal opinion is that the first one appears to be a little bit on the Orangy side & stands up well to what we know as Fiesta Red today, & the second one appears to be a kind of Dusky Pink, & much darker than what I would call Coral Pink. Neither are what I saw in the '60s, but are great colours in their own right, anyway. Perhaps we should 'get a life' & realise that perhaps Nostalgia aint what it used to be !

Isn't it true that coulors change with time and exposure to light? I mean the Fiestacoulor you see today was maybe different 45 years ago?

It certainly is true in many cases, however the Strat in the picture has been examined underneath the pickguard and the colour stands up exactly as we see it - after 50 years.

And of course I'm comparing the colour not with 50 years of ageing but as it was new, albeit from memory, but it does seem that Fender sometimes get it spot on, or there abouts, and the classic 50's which were around last year were quite acceptable, it looked a bit anaemic with chrome hardware, but gold brings it to life, but this latest batch in the shops just looks wrong, more of a dingy brick red, but Fender claim that's what they understand as a true American Fiesta red. I just wonder what they think the £2K Strats colour is in that case, because to me it looks pretty close.

I agree that exposure to light can affect paint & it certainly affected the lacquer used in the 50s/60s, which over the years turned quite a dark honey coloured tint. Obviously, the Pink Strats I saw in the '60s were brand new instruments, & so had no signs of distress at that time.

I agree with Dave...I own a '63 Strat in Fiesta Red and maybe it's not exactly the same colour as people would like it to be but I could care less.
I'm very comfortable with the guitar and it sounds like a million in one to me and that's all that counts.
I've seen Hank play numerous Strats in all sorts of variants and they all sound like Hank!
What I'm saying is it all comes down to how you play and not really what shade of red the guitar has...

Yes Ernie, although the reason I was looking isn't because I want to look like a Hank clone (wash my mouth out and three Hail Mary's) it's because I have always liked the colour, in fact when I first saw Hank's guitar it was on record covers, and there it looked to be post office red, I had only seen the pink ones in Charring Cross Road, and it was probably not until Hank started touring early 90's and I saw him live I realised his guitars were that colour, media clips always spoke of him in terms of the man with the specs and red guitar.

I have 2 black Strats a Sunburst one and a Jap Fiesta red, in fact the majority of my guitars are either black or natural, I was just looking for a Fiesta or even a hot red (ideally it would be closer in colour to the Knopfler Strat) with rosewood board and aged parts because I like the colour combination.

Much in the same way that there is nothing wrong with a white shirt, but most of mine sport various coloured stripes because that's the way I like them.
