Marshall 100w Super Lead

Postby sixtiesman » 23 Apr 2022, 17:15

Hi All

I know it's a long long shot: I bought a Marshall 2203 head in 1978, used it briefly and it's not done anything since. Had it checked out by Dan the amp man in Liverpool recently who pronounced it good. Saw one on Reverb last month for £3750 !!!!!!! Lots at £2500. Lots at £1600 well used. Mine is very very ( minty ) clean at £2000.

Please excuse this none vox amp. Moderator please remove if I have offended anyone!

That's a good price.

But for various reasons, I doubt that you will get an offer here (I could be wrong, but...).

My advice is to advertise it - free of charge - on one or more of the various Facebook gear-selling Groups, such as:

UK Music Gear Exchange

the UK Guitar Exchange

Guitars For Sale UK

Guitar Trader UK or

UK GUITAR / AMP / GEAR EXCHANGE

Thanks Jim!

I will look into those places. Do you think it's too cheap?

That amp will be of interest to a collector and it's all down to your marketing on whether you make a killing or not.
Jim's advice is good, think about where you can advertise it and who will see it and try to keep the advertising costs minimal.
I would try the free platforms first, such as Gumtree, then maybe eBay when they have those reduced 'selling fees' offers, I currently have one for 80% off final fees. Work the system and you will find the right buyer, that is the key. :)

I'll ask the amp guru, Trevor Ridney of UKMG, then report back...

Trevor has responded tout-de-suite as follows:

£2.5K is a good price in today's market. The amount quoted for the amp offered on Reverb [£3,500?] is a bit optimistic. For a museum quality 2203, I'd say £3k would be achievable. Hope this helps.

I do hope that that is helpful, Clive. Trev really is the main man for this sort of thing. He valued a 1978 Marshall head for me (though with pictures) a few years ago.
