Look what else has just appeared...

Postby JimN » 20 May 2013, 14:17

... with reminders of a more innocent age, complete with Rosetti/Egmond guitars and a Dallas Tuxedo (or two)...

...and Ray Brooks and an impossibly young David Hemmings (dating from even earlier than "Live It Up")...

I like those 'change catcher turn-ups' Jim, that white bass double cutaway looked a serious short scale, or was it a 6 string re-strung with bass strings?

I think that was a Rosetti (Egmond) Bass Seven, Keith.

There was the Lucky Seven, the Solid Seven and the Bass Seven.

The rarest of them in that clip is the sunburst Dallas Tuxedo (the guitar version of Mo Foster's first bass).

PS: Anneke Wills, shrinking her jeans to fit by lying with them on in a bath, sounds like a Blue Peter presenter patiently explaining the theory to her father (Kenneth More).

Angela Douglas, 'singing' the title song and Yes You Did, married Kenneth More after meeting him on the set of the film. :)

Neat little trailer. That was the Eagles' actual equipment used in the Youth Club scenes (the group appeared in the film as extras). The drums were genuinely damaged in the fight scene. Drummer Rod Meacham was quite happy though as he was promised a brand new kit (the one seen on the cover of "Smash Hits - by the Eagles" album).

Hi Guys

I think you will find that Angela Douglas was miming to Valerie Mountain, Valerie and the Eagles were a Bristol based group.

I never ceased to be amazed at Rob's knowledge of the music and what happened at on set all those years ago, Jim seems pretty much up to speed too!

Those were indeed golden days for may of us old enough not to know better, the coffee bars, youth clubs, bikes and music, a great time to be young!

Thanks for posting this clip JIm!

Best wishes

Gary

Glad that some of you out there find it of interest!! I interviewed various members of the Eagles (two of them are now sadly deceased) in 1988. Hence, some memories of the film came from them directly.

Yes. Valerie Mountain was well known amongst the Revivalist movement of the era. She featured in the ground - breaking, comparatively hard - hitting (for its era) religious drama - 'musical' , "A Man Dies" based around the life of Christ. It was broadcast on TV and Radio and there was a sort of 'soundtrack' LP (although it was never turned into a film) released on Columbia. So, Valerie was hired to sing (but not to act in "Some People") on account of having a powerful voice and being based in Bristol. After "Some People" she continued with her evangelistic performances for a while as well as becoming involved with social work and counselling. She then 'retired' from all of this when she married and moved to the USA with her husband. 50 years after "Some People", she lives happily in retirement in California. She apparently runs a successful small business (not out of financial necessity) designing and making her own line of 'bespoke' / 'bijou' jewellery. In case anyone was interested in what became of her! Eagles Rod Meacham (drs) and Terry Clarke (lead) both died prematurely (& both of heart - related problems) a few years ago. Johnny Payne (rhythm) still resides in the Bristol area. Mike Brice (bass) is also a fine lead guitarist and superb vocalist. He has toured now (& continues to tour) for many, many years with a long - standing incarnation of the Ivy League. Much as I like "Some People", I always preferred Jet & Tony's version.

Hi Jim/Rob

I have just come across a new CD released on the 5th May called "Teen Scene: UK Beat Instrumental Hits" in the Apple Store, The Eagles are on it with Bristol Express.

The Shadows, Jet Harris, Bert Weedon, The Tornados, Joe Brown, The Krew Kats and The Fentones are all featured as well, 44 tracks for £6.99!

Thanks for the follow up Rob, very sad about Rod Meacham and Terry Clarke.

Best regards

Gary
