Frank's been learning...

Postby JimN » 12 Oct 2012, 01:07

Tonight at the Playhouse, Whitstable, as they went into the Shadows Walk" section of Walking On The Moon, Frank - very much in the habit of calling out titles, composers, etc during the first few bars - cried: "Hank Marvin" and Vinnie added "and Bruce Welch". The promoter joined them for the crossover step...

Nice to see they know who Hank and Bruce are...

That's quite a nice clip Jim, reminds me of past days when two players just played together simply for fun and to make music..

Back then in our day, it would have been a couple of cheapo guitars, possibly not even electric, or with cheap screw-on pickups and sharing one crappy little amp or something.. :)

I saw two young chaps play like that a jazz festival side event some years ago- two scruffy teenage lads, two cheap acoustic/electric guitars, sharing one cheap amp....sat on a town hall stage , very nervous...THEN they both started blazing away with incredible technique and timing etc, playing a duet on a John McLaughlin jazz number...AAARRRGGHH! Future virtuoso players, wonder what became of them?

I thought "there is something strange about this clip" . . . . . . and then I realised . . . .

The audience was clapping to the OFFBEAT. This is of course strictly against the Rules For Clapping Along To Music In Public.

I can only assume that the entire audience was composed of musicians.

Ray

ps Have you ever tried clapping to the offbeat when the rest of the audience is clapping to the on?
It is FUN!

Well, if the audience last night at Whitstable wasn't entirely composed of musicians, there were a fair few there. As the promoter remarked after the encore, if all the guitarists present were to burn their guitars, it'd be a massive bonfire...
