Silly Arse has gone ... RIP Ray Alan

What really sad news to read that Ray Alan, arguably the best ventriloquist this country has ever produced, passed away this morning.

I can always remember seeing him on variety shows during the sixties and on his own kids show, Tich and Quackers (an early inspiration for Edd the Duck?) before marvelling and wetting myself at the antics of Lord Charles.

For those who want another look at what was one of his finest and funniest performances, take a look here and see a master at work.

RIP Ray, you were the best. A gottle of geer all round.

Yes indeed Tom. Bless him. The epitome of good clean fun. Alas we are unlikely to see his kind again.

R.I.P. Ray.

Cheers, Alan.

A sad loss indeed (I wonder what Lord Charles will do now).

There is a somewhat tenuous Shads connection - I remember seeing them at the ABC in Blackpool in 1963 and Ray and Lord Charles were one of the support acts.

The Master at work! A very complex routine made to look so natural and easy - and note the expressions on Rays face, it puts some so called actors to shame. I remember him telling a story of his early career when he did a tour with Laurel and Hardy - in my book the geatest comedians ever - saying how honoured he was when Oliver Hardy, not in the best of health, climbed several flights of stairs to Ray's dressing room, and asked him for HIS autograph! Will be sadly missed.
