Roy Smeck

When I first started learning guitar in 1960, my teacher (a retired orchestral guitarist) made me use a tutor book by Roy Smeck.
Check out Smeck's amazing ukulele playing in this video from the 1930s, also note the fingerboard tapping technique that rock guitarists use today.

Look at some of the other links such as "Wizard of the Strings", or Tiger Rag. Although the style is dated, it is still bloody amazing playing, a very talented guy.
(I also used books by Nick Manoloff and Mel Bay, but sadly can't find any entries on Youtube).
