" you can post anything here"

You never could Ecca.

All it takes is one person to complain about a post & the mods more or less have to take action.
I've lost count of the the threads that I have posted in various forums that have been edited/deleted/locked, although I must say this is one of the more liberal of forums. :)

In truth, no matter what is said, someone, somewhere will take "umbrage" with it in some way or another.

It was the genitalia related comment which drew criticism...

Just trying to keep the peace... (Reminds me of an ancient joke from the Potteries about a wayward local garage owner, whose wife was convicted of GBH and bound over to keep the peace. She told the hushed court,"I can't... I swallowed it!"

It has always struck me as wrong that people who want to censor things, or are offended by things and demand that they be removed, or apologies made, should be allowed to remain anonymous. If they have an opinion and want it imposed on others, it should be open for others to make judgement on it.

In this case, the moderator has acted as 'policemen' but the person who made the criticism is apparently allowed to stay in the background. May we know the name, and the content of their criticism?

+1 from me as well.

The complainant should be named as the person they are complaining about is identified on their post.
I know it won't happen & that the most I can expect in this sometimes strange world that we live in is that a reason is given (as David did yesterday)
I understand the reasoning used about keeping the complainant anonymous but don't agree with it.

As I said the other day "this is forum life"

I sent a PM to David pointing out the language in case he had missed it and am perfectly happy to say so - I felt it was not worth kicking off an argumentative thread about it (silly me) and that it was clearly against the normal ethos of this site. I think it lets us all down if language/jokes like that concerned are allowed - has no one seen where it leads to e.g. the bile that is written even about inoffensive YouTube clips (eg Hank's '---ing' violin on Cavatina).

This is about maintaining decent standards, not censorship. I bet you all tut when you walk past teenagers in the street and the '----' word is overheard several times in just that few seconds?

I would be very disappointed if Shads fans en masse really felt that 'anything goes' - I'd hope we're better than that. If not it's an even sadder country than is already obvious.

Anyway the joke would have been more subtle and then much funnier if the phrase had been avoided.

Mr Barnes, I am sorry that this joke has offended you or anyone else, so now am making a public
apology as to the whole content, which if you wish you can request to David Martin to have the entire
postings and thread removed.
May I add that the pre edit wording did not have any four letter word or other obscenity in its content,
but a sexual reference which on reflection should not have been added to something of this nature.

I wasn't personally offended - that's putting it far too strongly - anyway that's a very gracious posting which shows there's hope for us all!
