One of the young lads at work is starting a project as part of his photography degree. Obviously having at least some good taste the lad is basing this around the V bombers, briefly consisting of a large image (about 2m wide) of each of the "V's" arranged as a display with below a "waterline" model of the Blue Steel.
This model to be around 3m long, not to exact scale but needs to be as realistic looking as poss.

Has anybody got (or have access to) some tech info/details/pictures of the B Steel to enable Ben to build a correctly proportioned model ?

Also any info as to the Concorde connection ? (this is mainly for my own curiousity, but could develop into part of Ben's project if we can find enough details to make it feasible)

Thanks in advance :)

Dick.

Just bringing this back to the top

Any info or links much apprieciated

Cheers

Dick.

I see they are threatening to Scrap / sell abroad / ground 558 again unless the Suck... sorry Punters
raise so many thousand pounds again.

Talking to the XM655 crew the other week they already have a collection of parts on loan off 655!

655 was ground run yesterday after the removal checking and refitting of engine number 3.
Also the crew of 558 were training on it as well!

XM603 Woodford news - XM603 will be scrapped sometime in April!!

[558 has landed at Doncaster for possibly the last time according to yesterdays YTV show 'Calendar'. They need to raise £350,000 to keep it for another season.

I was at Finningley (sod all this "Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield" stuff!) yesterday to see '558 arrive at her new home. She looked and sounded in good form after her "hibernation service" at RAF Lyneham, despite a very minor yaw damper malfunction on approach. She came to rest outside the new Passenger Terminal - it was good to see a Vulcan at Finningley again!
Subject to final negotiations with the airport's owners, it is intended that this will be her final home, with a visitor centre being incorporated (perhaps with part of Doncaster "Aeroventure" museum re-locating) to allow public access. This is likely to include facility for "fast taxi" runs when '558's flying days are over.
As for YTV's report "landing..................possibly for the last time" - don't forget that this old bird has been landing "for the last time" since 1992 to my certain knowledge, but it STILL going strong. Of course the project is short of cash - a project like this always WILL be! - but we Vulcan Fans (or, at least, those of us serious enough to put their hands in their pockets) are JUST as committed as the most ardent "That Sound" Fans, and will continue to "pull rabbits out of hats" as long as we can - subject to '558's finite airframe and engine life.
Glad she's "Oop North" again, too!
Regards
Paul

P.S. (for Amanda) We MAY be "Suck....Sorry Punters", but SOME of us support ALL THREE functioning Vulcans tha' nors!!

My late father who worked at "Sud Aviation" was involved in the preliminary studies which led to the Concorde, but my brothers and I didn't keep the confidential documents documents he had at home after his death. We returned them to the company...
