Surely it's a question of category? This is The Lounge where "You can post anything in here". Justin put his 'Appeal' into General, where messages should have some relevence to The Shadows. I see that David has put in a link to Justin's blog here in The Lounge, which seems fair.

That phrase 'post anything' is an interesting one. Between 'Ban everything' and 'Allow everything' there is a sliding scale where 'post anything' can be nudged backwards and forwards by contributors and by the moderators.

Consider that trio of all-time favourites, sex, politics and religion. The Lounge seems to have a fairly relaxed policy on jokes about sex, but there are one or two contributors who are a bit sensitive about politics or religion. It would be interesting to probe such sensitivity, but the sensitivity also seems to apply to talking about such topics at all, thus nudging 'post anything' towards the 'ban everything' end of the scale.

Actually Justin's post was removed from the Lounge as well but it appears some kind of compromise has now been reached. The rules seem rather arbitrary when Justin's "Appeal" is considered political (It isn't) but posting completely bogus information in order to complain about the way OAP's are treated in the UK, verses immigrants, is apparently not political...

Perhaps there is a reference to guitar manufacturing that I missed? Nope, not rocket science. In fact not any kind of science.

Writing as one of the Mods, I'd say there is a difference between starting a thread on an inappropriate subject and merely adding an inappropriate comment to an OK one. I for one am not about to jump on every comment. Free speech after all. And too much work!

The site rules were not drawn up by lawyers! They're more a code of practice summed up in the two words 'common sense'. Or one word if you run it together. They aren't exhaustive because they can't be and, fortunately, don't need to be. So the site has a small number of moderators who try to steer the ship when the waters get rough or the rocks seem close. We're not paid and we're not experts, we're just Shads fans along with everyone else.

I fully understand that you won't always agree with what we do. Still, onwards and upwards eh? :)
