That's a pretty good memoir of Luxembourg 208.

Being my contrary self as usual, I agree that the very best period for Radio Luxembourg was in the early 1960s (certainly 1961 - 1964, maybe a bit later) when all the shows were sponsored and the big four UK record companies (EMI, Philips, Pye and Decca) used to sponsor most of them. Not all of them - there were other sponsors, such as H Samuel, Ever-Ready and Frys chocolate - but most of them were sponsored by record labels, in 15, 30 and 60 minute slots. That, in my opinion, was far better than the American-style two or three hour DJ slots which the pirates used and which Luxembourg (and the BBC) later adopted.

And this picture is priceless:

Who remembers the hot gospelling sermons of the American evangelist Garner Ted Armstrong??

I went to see this film on its release at the Plaza in Hessle, here in East Yorkshire. The film was made under the auspices of the Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme but I didn't let this put me off. I bought the EP shortly after and still play it. As much as I like the original, I too preferJet's version. I bought the video some years ago and the dvd about three years or more ago.

One of my favourite scenes in the film is of the group running to catch a bus carrying their guitars and amps. No Marshall stacks here.

Rob asks about Garner Ted Armstrong? American preacher on Radio Lux. He and his father Herbert W. Armstrong did quarter-hour shows claiming various powers for the supernatural. The usual 'turn it down until until the music comes back' stuff.

As is so often the case, Garner Ted did not follow the path that he preached. Here is a quote from Wikipedia allegations of Garner Ted's gambling and adultery, the disagreement between father and son over operations and certain doctrinal positions of the church boiled over. In 1978 Herbert Armstrong excommunicated his son and fired him from all roles in the church and college on the night .

Let's get back to the music!

Wasn't Garner Ted Armstrong also mentioned in the Bonzos' "Intro and the outro"?

Yes, on "Vocals" (scat style), and just ahead of Lord Snooty And His Pals "tap dancing".
