I prefer the first couple of years of the Stones and the first three albums with Brian Jones, an underrated bluesman.

For me, the Rolling Stones were finished when Brian Jones left the band - IMHO he WAS the Rolling Stones, just as Hank is The Shadows

Couldn't agree more on Dave's point regarding the importance of Brian Jones on
THAT early sound they had.
As for Bill Wyman's guest appearance at the 02, he looked pretty bored with it all.
Maybe he was ready to smile when the ink from his pay cheque dried!!!

I have seen various clips of The Rolling Stones over the years, but has Bill Wyman ever looked NOT bored?

The comment that "Hank is The Shadows" is rather thoughtless and completely inaccurate Dave.

A matter of opinion, but the harsh truth I'm afraid in the big scheme of things.

As you say - it's a matter of opinion.

Dare I say this?

At least they invited Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor to join the group on stage and to play a song each.....

(and I'll say no more...)

I remember someone recently calling a member 'inaccurate' and 'ridiculous' in relation to a comparison between Hank Marvin and George Harrison. ;)

As lead guitarist, it is inevitable that he would always be centre stage, certainly in the conscience of the public at large.

Perhaps, as deep admirers, we tend to look at such matters more analytically!

I happen to agree with Dave, and we are all entitled to our opinion. Hank is the 'voice' of the shadows. Hank can play without the rest of the band (see youtube,Hank, without backing) but the rest of the band cannot play without Hank.
