Thanks Gary. I don't know about Terry Clarke.....but Rod was clearly a bit of a 'bon viveur'. He was a heavy smoker, liked his food and he drank more than was probably good for him (I'm not suggesting for one moment that he was an alcoholic - I'm sure he wasn't). The trouble is that people just didn't think (or even realise) about 'healthy lifestyles' in those days. Rod was only 58 when he collapsed and died (massive coronary) whilst playing skittles at a local pub. I believe that Terry was aged c. 64 & had suffered intermittent heart problems for several years. But....still way too young to go in both cases & prevented a potential Eagles reunion. What a superb group they were.

Bests....Rob :D

Kenneth More eh and who better could you get to play the moral upstanding fatherly figure at this particular
time.
As for these deliquent youths, Group Captain Douglas Bader would have seen that they got a damn good thrashing!!!
And please put a black out curtain on that Dirty bookshop window after we have had a good look at the 3/6d pin ups
books!!!

Interesting stuff about the Eagles, Rob... I well recall their take on the traditional Floral Dance!

Some People also reminded me of Carol Deene. :)

Thanks Bill! Carol Deene ("Norman", "James...Hold The Ladder Steady", "Johnny Get Angry" - I had a thing about her as a 10 yr old!!). I have never heard her version of "Some People" before. Excellent!! Splendid replication of Ron Grainer's 'Calliope' effect on the original. Lovely version and many thanks for posting it here.

I think you will find that Angela Douglas was miming to Valerie Mountain, Valerie and the Eagles were a Bristol based group.

Yes. Valerie Mountain was well known amongst the Revivalist movement of the era. She featured in the ground - breaking, comparatively hard - hitting (for its era) religious drama - 'musical' , "A Man Dies" based around the life of Christ. It was broadcast on TV and Radio and there was a sort of 'soundtrack' LP (although it was never turned into a film) released on Columbia.

Rob, you've really got me delving now!! The album was issued in 1961 on Columbia (33)SX 1609.

The Carol Deene record is the one I remember from the time. Decades later, I didn't recognise the name "Valerie Mountain" at all. Remember Carol co-hosting a Radio Luxembourg show with Sam Costa?

She certainly gets a mention in the book by Alan Bailey, a Luxembourg engineer/producer at the time.

The Eagles backed Del Shannon on what was I think his second UK tour possibly 1962 - I seem to remember they had red Fenders by that time! Del borrowed one and played "Brazil" The male lead singer in "A Man Dies"( I have the LP!) was Ricky Forde who had an amazing "Roy Orbison" voice and later came to Stoke on Trent to form the Tennesseans. They had a single released on Parlaphone "You Are My Love." Up to a few years ago he was still performing solo I believe back in the Bristol area.
Regarding Carol Deene as a young teenager I had her picture on my bedroom wall and I still have her Some People record! ;)

TEEN SCENE CD

Has anyone found anywhere to purchase this as a proper CD, not a download?

I only listen to music in the car these days (I'd rather play than listen, but haven't found a way to do that and drive!), and always prefer a real CD as opposed to one I've burned on the computer. This one duplicates quite a few of the tracks on 'The Haunted Pad, Guitar Instrumentals of the '60s' CD, but there are a lot more, too, so well worth buying.
