Have not had virus problems since I used McAfee Anti Virus (touch wood!) I did have problems on my daughters computer few years back and one tip I found was to reboot in safe mode and run all the virus/spam checkers for some reason it does a better job that way (no network access in safe mode so download beforehand). Some sort of site checker is also a good idea (McAfree Site Advisor for instance. )
