Re: Credit Card Scam

The really annoying thing, which happened to me once, was when I was making a purchase with my card and was told the card had been refused. Considering I have used Access/Mastercard, with the same bank, since the mid seventies and pay off the full amount each month, I was gobsmacked. While I was still in the shop, my mobile rang and it was the bank, checking if it was me using the card. I asked them why they didn't ring first, rather than refuse payment, and they told me they didn't do it that way. The fact that they had caused me some embarrassment with their over-zealous security didn't seem to bother them at all.

I've been contacted by phone by my bank when I've had an unusual spending pattern or a large single transaction, e.g. another new guitar!
I once had a payment declined when I tried to make an online payment to a holiday firm on the grounds that it was " a large sum of money and very late at night"! I almost lost out on a good deal because of that but I guess they were looking after my interests or my interest!
