WHO goes there...?

With the return of Doctor Who imminent...

Sadly, for me, I am NOT the 12th Doctor, but can anyone tell me the significance of this photo? Clue; you have to look very closely at the map!!!!

At 300x450 pixels, the definition isn't good enough to read anything more than 'Street Plans' on the front cover of the map so unless one is familiar with the church in the picture, or the particular map in its shade of orange because one lives in the district, then the map isn't much of a clue.

It is a double-sided map and on the side with the listing of the roads is shown a town small enough that it has open space on either side. That is likely to be the smaller of the two towns shown on the map with the larger town on the side that we cannot see.

So it is from an area with probably only two towns of any size and where the most notable feature is a not-particularly-big church.

As you are maybe visiting a Dr Who exhibition, the lack of winter coats suggests the photo was taken last year or earlier. A list of places where Dr Who exhibitions have been held in the last few years might help to pin down the location.

Or is it a play on words? Some link with the name of a character in the series, for example?

More clues please - or a picture with greater detail !

Hi Ray.

Yeah, I agree that the pic is not really clear enough. I will try to add a slightly bigger scan at the weekend. Having said that; you can just about make out the name of the town in the white area above the church....

Here's another photo - which is possibly slightly clearer in the map department?!!!

Again, what is the significance visible in this photo? I shall give you a clue... it's to do with the place in which the TARDIS has apparently landed and the young lady in the photo.

It just has to be Bloxwich, the centre of the universe.

Absolutely correct - it IS Basingstoke!

The significance is that the young lady in the picture, Sarah Sutton, was born in Basingstoke. Sarah played Nyssa in Doctor Who between 1981 and 1983. So that's the link. Also, as one or two of you know, I also lived in Basingstoke in the early 1970s. And yes, I DID get her to sign the map! She told me that it was the very first time anyone had ever asked her to sign a map! Surely not?!!! I am either mad or sad. Or perhaps both.

(I am of course lobbying hard for the role of the next Doctor - or the Master, I'm not choosey! - but with very little success thus far...)
