Bruce's Grimshaw

Postby GoldenStreet » 23 Aug 2013, 11:58

A picture from the last week's Bucks Herald's 'memory lane' page of Cliff with Bruce's Grimshaw (probably preferable to Hank's Antoria!), demonstrating his skills to a local 15 year old fan at the Granada cinema in Aylesbury on 26th February, 1959...

Also on the bill were Tony Crombie's Rockets (link there with Jet), whose guitarist, Jimmy Currie, had played a similar Grimshaw with them in 1957. Is this possibly the actual instrument later used by Bruce, I wonder... :?:

In my ignorance, for years I thought that maybe there was only one white Grimshaw SS70 like that in London at that time, which had perhaps been sold or passed around between the top rock players as Bruce, Jimmie Currie, Joe Moretti, Joe Brown, Tony Sheridan and others who were pictured with that guitar at the time...but of course there were quite a few around (the Grimshaw retail outlet was apparently a shop in Piccadilly, not far from Soho/2I's area)

The Grimshaw guitars website is worth a look by the way...
