Judging from the demonstrations currently on You Tube , It sounds more suited to Jack Bruce early
Cream stuff rather than Jet's repertoire and similar.
Still if anyone buys one and gets That Thunder Sound then maybe UB Jet would be a possibility?

The Fender period modelled by the Squier appears to be 1967-72, with "blocks and binding".

More John Lennon in the Hey Jude era than Jet in the ...Golden Arm era.

having built a 28.5" scale, Bass VI Strat-o-like with a couple of P90's rather than 3 single coils, tuned an octave down, the sonic difference is nowhere near as great as on a regular guitar.

Given that most of us have only heard a 60's recording of the real thing and at the time Twang was the Thang, probably by the time Lennon and Bruce had there hands on them the amp and recording tone controls had been set differently.

From my own point of view, in 62 on my amp it was treble full on bass full off, but a few years later that had changed to full bass and treble at around 7 - there was no mid on an Eagle 30 watt valve amp.

I reckon these'd do the job well enough and GAK are doing them at well under £300

Very nice copy and good value- but listening to the demo on YouTube, I still think the Jet sound really needs FLATWOUND strings.

These are not very common and expensive - Fender make a set for the Bass VI but my good mate the bass player here in Australia got a set from USA and was disappointed in the bottom E string sound etc.

(I would suggest that as an alternative, the Squier Bass VI could perhaps be strung with a set of 30 inch short scale flatwound 4 string bass strings plus a couple of suitable gauge separate flatwound guitar strings for the high B and E)

Incidentally, I found a good way to amplify a Bass VI or a tuned- down regular guitar or baritone guitar, is plug into a regular guitar amp with reverb, then take a line out into a bass amp...gives a decent Jet sound...

Barry Gibson (MD of Burns Guitars - for the few who don't know) supplies a set of flatwounds for 6 string basses. I've got a set on my Burns Barracuda Special
Barry originally supplied the Barracuda with wire wound strings - i could not get the "Jet" sound with them but on changing to the flat wounds I've been very pleased with the results.
Also, I'm surprised that no one else has referred to the latest Burns Barracudas on the website - pehraps no one else has got one??

If the Squier Bass V1 is half decent at that price then its incredible value for money. Look forward to seeing one in the Shops when they are issued.
