Hi to everyone,
I dont know really how to explain whats going on with my equipement at the moment , so I am hoping maybe someone has had the same experience.... let me explain. I have an Alesis quad + eftp, and a blackstar HT studio 20 amp ( just had all valves replaced..same spec as manufacturer) ..everything has been fine for a few weeks, playing away merrily in my studio, and then started to here my sound get really sharp, some notes zinging, and regular tunes that I play sounding like Ive just altered all the eq. Not to get to concerned I thought it might be a one off, so on new years eve I offered to play a few tunes at some friends party...and when I started to play ..my strat (kinman pups) started sounding like a banjo...much to my embarrasment and dissapiontment, I tried in vane tweeking this and that, and ended up with some kind of acceptable tone ...but not as it should be. So I am now in the position as to were do I start looking, is it the quad, or is it the amp, at the moment all Ive tried is the quad in the bypass mode and I cant really say if the guitar sounds are noticable without the echoes, so please any advice..experience of yours, will be most valuable.

a faulty guitar lead?????

Eliminate things one at atime.
Plug guitar straight into the amp. Is it the same ?
If yes then plug different guitar through same set-up. Is it the same ?
If yes then it's the amp.
If no then it's the guitar.

if straight into the amp is OK then it's the echo.

Hi.. thanks for your comments, have tried the process of elimination , and yes, the guitar sounds fine through the amp on its own,which indicates that the quad + must have some re-occuring noisey patches, if this is the case, god knows where the problem lies, unless any of you guys have experienced this, and know of a route to take to rectify the problem. it certainly appears that something in the software isnt quite right, and more important -why. Where now ??

If you have the facility to back up the patches, back them up and do a system reboot and reload the patches, it may help but no guarantees.

Not necessarily. As you describe the test process, there is still the possibility that one of the guitar leads is faulty.

I suggest you try both leads individually, jolting them around a bit whilst in use to check for physical robustness and security of connection.
