Anybody tried these strings? I purchased a set yesterday(10/44) and they are great. I put them on my Tele and am really impressed with the playability and tone 8-)
So much so that I'm going to try them on my Strat too :D
Just wondered

My son and I have certainly used a set or two on a Gibson ES175 and ES165 over the years (and I have a set lying round waiting for the next re-stringing job).

They sound great on that sort of guitar, but only at gauges like 12-54. The one problem we found was a slight tendency for the core wire to break, unravelling the wrap. And of course, they're trés cher.

To be honest, I wouldn't use them in the gauge you mention, or for that application. For that sort of guitar, I feel that wirewound is best, without a doubt.

I use them on my Rickenbacker 340/6 and they sound great. They are so percussive and have a true vintage sound. Having said that, I also used Pyramid flatwounds. In my opinon they are even better because they have higher tension and playing on 10.5/46 feels like playing on heavier strings. Both strings are very expensive Thomastik is Austrian and Pyramids are German . By the way, both firms also make superlative roundwound strings, but as Jim said, ther are rather "cher"

Jim, they actually sound great with my Tele. I suppose it depends on the instrument and the player and what they want out of the guitar. I'm using the guitar set up in a blues+jazz fashion. I did wonder when I ordered them if I should have gone for 11s but I'm glad I did'nt, I think the 10s are great for my style of playing. Maybe further on down the road I'll go for a heavier gauge.
We are all different I suppose in our styles and tastes

I have the Thomastik George Benson heavy flatwounds on my Jazzmaster. Really great for that Bob Bogle sound!

Theere is a good chance Hanl's early pieces were played with flatwounds, as the Strat must have arrived with those installed. Anyway, they are wonderful strings.

The flatwounds are hard to find in shops these days, and usually quite expensive, but I bought three different brands and gauges from a local shop which was closing down- must have been old stock..

I'll gradually put them on various guitars as my current strings wear out- I like to keep strings on for a fair while- make them earn their keep at gigs, practices etc

I'm using fairly heavy gauge on stage at present- prefer the sound -and the resistance -which helps with playing tricky fast bits and gives a good solid note..it certainly sounded OK last night at the pub...even got a couple of compliments from punters...some folks enjoy guitar instrumentals thank goodness, as we slip one or two in each set..

In fact, I try to earn as much on as many gigs as we can get- to pay for the guitars as well!!
